What is a Gel Manicure?

A gel manicure is a colour treatment where gel polish is applied over the natural nail and cured under a UV/LED lamp for a long-lasting, chip-resistant finish. Unlike regular nail polish, gel doesn't smudge or peel within days - when applied correctly with thorough prep, it stays glossy, smooth and true to colour for two to three weeks. It's the most popular choice for everyday wear, holidays, special occasions and anyone who wants consistently polished nails without frequent maintenance.

Your appointment, step by step

  • Nail assessment – we check the condition of your nails and agree on your preferred shape and the shade you'd like.
  • Shaping & smoothing – nails are filed to your chosen shape - square, oval, round, squoval or almond - with any rough edges smoothed and refined.
  • Cuticle care – cuticles are gently pushed back and tidied, creating a clean base and ensuring gel adheres properly all the way to the nail edge.
  • Surface prep – the nail plate is lightly dehydrated to improve adhesion and extend wear time.
  • Base coat – a bonding base coat is applied and cured under the lamp to protect the natural nail.
  • Colour application – your chosen shade is applied in thin, even layers with each coat cured before the next, for a smooth and consistent result.
  • Top coat & cleanse – a high-gloss or matte top coat seals the colour. The nail surface is cleansed, the result checked edge to edge, and cuticle oil applied to finish.

  • Avoid biting or picking the skin around your nails in the days leading up.
  • Keep nails clean and avoid applying hand cream in the hour before your visit.

After your appointment

  • Apply cuticle oil daily - this single habit extends gel longevity more than anything else.
  • Avoid using your nails as tools: opening cans, scraping or peeling labels.
  • Wear gloves when cleaning, doing dishes or using strong chemicals.
  • Return for professional removal when the gel is ready - peeling or picking damages the nail surface.
