What is Classic Builder Gel?

Builder gel is a flexible, strengthening overlay applied directly to your natural nails and cured under a UV/LED lamp for a smooth, glossy finish that's noticeably stronger than bare nails. Unlike acrylic, it doesn't use liquid and powder - the consistency is controlled, building strength gradually without added bulk. It's particularly well-suited to nails that are thin, bendy, prone to peeling or constantly breaking before they have a chance to grow. With good aftercare, nails stay strong and polished for three to four weeks between appointments.

Your appointment, step by step

  • Nail health consultation – we look at the condition of your natural nails, discuss any previous treatments and agree on your ideal length and shape.
  • Cleanse & prep – nails are sanitised and cuticles are carefully pushed back and tidied. The nail plate is gently buffed and dehydrated to create the ideal surface for adhesion.
  • Bonding base – a base coat is applied to protect the natural nail and ensure the overlay stays firmly in place throughout wear.
  • Builder gel layers – gel is applied in thin, controlled layers, with each layer cured under the lamp. This technique builds strength gradually without unnecessary bulk.
  • Sculpting & shaping – the gel is shaped and filed to your preferred style: square, oval, almond or squoval.
  • Top coat & seal – a glossy top coat is applied and cured, providing a high-shine finish and extra chip resistance.
  • Cuticle oil & aftercare – cuticle oil is worked in around every nail and you leave with clear guidance on care at home.

  • Have active nail infections, fungal issues or open wounds around the cuticle area.

  • Are unable to return for professional infills or removal - builder gel should never be peeled or picked off.

Results & longevity

Most clients get 3–4 weeks of strong, glossy, chip-resistant wear. The finish holds without significant dulling or lifting when aftercare is followed consistently. With regular infill appointments, many clients find their natural nails become noticeably stronger and healthier over time - builder gel can protect and support nail growth rather than impair it.

Prep & aftercare

Before your appointment

  • Avoid biting the skin around your nails or picking at cuticles before the appointment.
  • If you have heavy glitter, acrylic or another product on the nails, let us know ahead of time.
  • Tell us if you've ever had an allergic reaction to gel or nail products.
  • Keep nails clean and avoid applying hand cream in the hour before you arrive.

After your appointment

  • Apply cuticle oil daily - morning and evening if possible - to keep the nail and surrounding skin hydrated.
  • Avoid using your nails as tools: opening cans, scraping labels or pulling things apart.
  • Wear rubber or nitrile gloves for cleaning, washing up or contact with household chemicals.
  • Book your infill at around 3 weeks - leaving it longer risks lifting and potential nail damage.
  • If a nail lifts or snaps, contact us rather than attempting a home repair.
