What is a Builder Gel Manicure?

Builder gel is a flexible, self-levelling gel that is applied to the natural nail in thin layers and cured under a UV/LED lamp. Unlike gel polish, it has a thicker consistency that builds structure, reinforcing thin or weak nails, smoothing ridges and creating a strong, even surface for colour. The result is a gel manicure that holds its shape, stays chip-free for three to four weeks, and genuinely supports nail health rather than compromising it. No extensions, no acrylics. Just your natural nail, reinforced.

Your appointment, step by step

  • Nail assessment: we check the condition of your nails, discuss your preferred shape and agree on the finish.
  • Shaping: nails are filed to your chosen shape with any rough edges smoothed and the free edge prepared.
  • Cuticle care: cuticles are gently pushed back and any overgrowth removed to create a clean, adhesion-ready nail plate.
  • Surface prep: the nail plate is lightly buffed and dehydrated so the builder gel bonds correctly from the first layer.
  • Builder gel application: gel is applied in controlled layers, self-levelling to create a smooth, even surface. Each layer is cured before the next.
  • Colour application: your chosen gel colour is applied over the cured base, built up in thin layers for depth and consistency.
  • Top coat and finish: a high-shine or matte top coat seals the colour. Cuticle oil is applied and the result is checked edge to edge.

Results and longevity

Most clients get 3–4 weeks of strong, chip-resistant wear. The overlay holds its shape and the colour stays consistent throughout. Longevity is affected by prep quality, how hands are used day-to-day and aftercare, particularly cuticle oil use and avoiding water exposure in the first 24 hours. With consistent aftercare, four weeks is very achievable.

Before your appointment

  • Arrive with clean, product-free hands: no hand cream in the hour before.
  • Let us know if you have any existing product on your nails so we can allow the correct removal time.
  • Bring inspo photos if you have a specific colour or finish in mind.

After your appointment

  • Apply cuticle oil daily: this is the single habit that extends your wear time most.
  • Avoid prolonged water exposure for the first 24 hours while the gel fully cures.
  • Wear gloves when cleaning or using strong chemicals.
  • Do not peel or pick the gel: book a removal appointment instead.
